Irian Jaya is the very vast province, and the most eastern territory of Indonesia. It occupies the western part of the island New Guinea. The people of Irian Jaya have negroid features. Not less than 300 tribes live in Irian Jaya. Each tribes speaks its own dialect, live in certain settlements, and have their own laws.

The northwest coast of Irian Jaya is the homeland of Asmat tribe, who lived around Flamingo Bay and Cook's Bay. The Asmat people are expert craftsmen and scluptors. Their art is famed around the world. They live in a wood culture because all their tools are somehow related to wood. Wow-ipits is what they call their master craftsmen.
